The scary thing is that because Brent is so tall he made the cut off to ride the tea cups (no adults could go with). We were kind of nervous cause there is no tell what he is going to do since he has no fear but he actually did pretty good until the very end when he was up out of his seat belt and off the ride before it stopped of course.

So we have been busy this summer....one of the reasons I love summer...and have taken a lot of pictures but I have had time to download them off my big camera. So here are a couple from six flags and the zoo from my little camera.

This last month or so has been crazy with going back to work and nick finishing up his classes so thankfully we have had some help with Brent between the grandparents/family and daycare (or as Brent refers to it as "school"). He loves his teacher "miss jessica" and he loves his newest classmate "emma" (the only girl) and apparently went around hugging her all day her first day she was there. I am offically done with my 5 week orientation which I refer to the time as "the black hole days" which therefore means I have returned from the black hole and doing much better working my 1-2 shifts/week.

I randomly ran into a girl I worked with at st. louis children's hospital (6 years ago!) who just started working on the same unit as me a month before me. Small world.

Humm what else....Brent is as strongwilled as ever. The other day he was mad at me cause I wouldn't let him help me make pancakes and stir the batter (since I had just scrubed my floor on my hands and knees the day before) so when I went to shower he decided he would make his own breakfast......a dozen eggs on my kitchen floor! I knew I was in trouble when he can walking into the bathroom as I was getting out of my 5 minute shower with 2 eggs in his hands...one in which had a finger whole poked in it and was dripping yoke from the kitchen, through the livingroom, to the bathroom.

I am guilty of not having finished/started his baby book, so that is my goal these next couple months to go back through the blog and figure out dates and stories. So for now some side notes for his baby book (well almost 2 years old book I guess now):

Current favs:

1. spiders/ants and alligators (more of a love/hate relationship though with the last though)

2. The Wheels on the Bus

3. "mowing" the grass (toy lawn mower I picked up at a garage sales saves the day everyday)

4. "outside" (repeated every 2 minutes of the day we spend inside)

5. still likes to "work" fixing things with his tools (a lot of times we have to go run errands with a toy hammer...and then I get the looks from everyone, "no wonder you son has bruises on his forehead)

6. banging his head with frustration (ie: his strong will, bruises on forehead)

7. his "baby" a porcelain doll figurine grandma miller (karen) made when nick was a baby (bad combo, brent-porcelain-hammers-etc) but he really does take good care of it...gets a diaper (or 5) out for it and always says it's "butt itches" and puts desitin on its bottom

8. New love is the beach...which we are lucky to have a nice one on base and free and no one but us it seems like goes there

Anyways, hopefully now that I am back from the black hole I will be able to put up a few more pictures and stories....or even better yet be motivated to print off my 1,000 pictures I have taken of Brent over the past 2 years for a baby book:) I just don't know where to begin though at this point....okay by his 2nd birthday it will be done!

So the other day I went into the bathroom to get ready for the day and I knew something was up when my comrade wasn't at my side but I choose to enjoy getting ready with a little peace instead of seeing what he was up to knowing he was probably up to no good. Well, on the way to the bathroom he notice one of the cabinet doors in the kitchen was open just enough to spark his interested (they are child proof with a latch) and he decided he was up for a challenge. Brent was able to slide his hand threw the 1/2 inch crack to be able to pull out some baking chocolate and of course indulged. When I came out he was wiping his hands clean...but there was something else that gave away the chocolate bandit's guilt....

We have a brand new video camera that we have used like twice but somehow in the move lost the battery charger. Anyway, so for videos we have just been using our little point and shoot camera clips. Here are a couple videos of the energy I deal with daily...not sure who he gets his moves from:) Also on the camera, I was looking through it and found this pic...I have no idea how old Brent is but it was a night I was gone and Nick was in charge of dinner:)

It has been a crazy couple weeks with ear infections, household stomach flu, vacation, other health issues, and now Nick's grandma Miller just passed away. So the vacation pictures are slow to go up (I actually haven't even looked at them). Brent did have a blast at the beach and feeding the birds and is now obcessed with airplanes and helicopters along with "going bye-bye". He hates being home and hates winter even more now that he got a taste of the sun...who could blame him.

On a different note...I have a new (and final) "blogsite." Instead of working on both a website and photog blog (since I have limited technical/ computer skills and was driving myself and my brother crazy) I combined the two...

Brent is at a pretty fun age and learning more everyday. He is getting pretty good at talking and combining words which is pretty funny listening to him talk and think. I took him swimming and he is no longer cautious about going underwater...it doesn't phase him at all. Still loves to climb and even more so...loving to "jump" as well. We took him out in the snow for the first time today to try out his new sled and of course he loved it. He refused to keep his gloves on so we couldn't stay out long which ended in a huge fit as he sobbed at the window watching Nick finish scoop the drive by himself. Brent really wanted to help:)

Brent had his 15 months appointment today and weighed in at 27 pounds 1 ounce (75th percentile) and 33 3/4 inches long (95th percentile). And he managed to get a huge bruise and bump on his forehead from opening up the door and trying to escape while I was talking to the doctor as well as pull out one of their child protection safety plugs from the electrical outlet. The doctor was amazed he could do that, I was not:)

I think it is funny how you can really tell a kids personality by how they react to a new situation...some are real laid back, happy-go-lucky...some are real shy and reserved...and then you have some that are just real serious. Brent falls under the real serious category. I took him to a pumpkin patch this weekend and there were no smiles, no squeals, it was just purely Brent vs. the pumpkin patch and he was there to conquer. He saw every pumpkin as a challenge of whether he could lift it up or not and the wagon was just pure danger...of course he wanted to stand up the whole time in the wagon. We had fun but unfortunately I have no really cute pictures of Brent standing by a pumpkin giggling and smiling...he definitely had his game face on.

We are very excited we get our own 4 walls...we are moving off base into a house! Can't wait...I took some pictures today but they are still fixing it up so we will be moving at the end of the month. Brent is quite the big boy now. He is loving to run around, talking up a storm, and is quite the climber. If it there is anyting off the ground he will climb it and think he is so cool. His favorite words are "all done", "ut-oh", "ball", "more", and of course "dada." First think out of his mouth every morning is "dada" and we spend the rest of the day looking for Nick. He has to do everything dada does, drink his morning coffee, stretch, talk on the phone, etc, etc. He is so funny to watch and play with now you just have to wonder what is going on in that little mind of his.

Don't try this at home. It is actually kind of funny cause several years ago a couple of my girlfriends and I went to Hawaii and when I climb up the rocks the first time I was scared to death to jump but I discovered if I turned around (you can't see how high up you are) and did a back flip off it I wasn't scared at all. Weird yes but so much fun. Sorry about the video...Nick could have cut it off before the close up at the end.

So Nick and I have been to Hawaii several times but this is the first time we have actually gone the military route and it was pretty nice and saved A LOT of money. We mostly stayed at the Hale Koa on Waikiki which is being rennovated and updated (we of course didn't stay on one of the new floors) but next year it would be really nice to stay at....affordable and on the beach! We also rented a cabin on Bellows Beach which is on the east side of the island at Bellows airforce base and it was awesome...5 feet from the beach, 2 br, kitchen, and living room cabin for $60/ night! Not necessarily 5 star luxury but perfect for a family vacation or multi-family vacation. We wished we would have stayed there the whole time so I was just throwing that bit of wisdom if anyone was planning an upcoming Hawaii trip.

LOOK OUT...Brent Nicholas Miller just qualified for the Gymnastics Spot (the owner use to be one of my coaches growing up) Baby Spot Team! Yes that is right Brent will participating in Gymnastics this fall. They wont know what to do with him. Also this fall he will attempt to qualify in the mom and me swim classes here on base. He has been working on his splashing and I think he might be able to pull it off:)

Kind of a random post but I was testing out a new camera lense around the house (forgive the horrible pictures still working on figuring some things out) so I thought I would share our home here at Great Lakes...home of the long long winters. I actually kind of just got done putting pictures on the walls and decorating since our move here was pretty rough with Brent having his feeding problems. We also just got Brent a new nursery set so that just got put together thanks to Nick and within 2 days Brent had bite marks like a beaver all over his crib railing!

Doesn't really show much of our room but I still love looking at Brent's newborn pictures and how small he was and how sweet he was...for maybe 3 days he was sweet:)

Our kitchen...please note several things...dying plant...sailor and nurse statue Karen and Roger gave us for Christmas...Nick's "decorations" he added when I was out of town one weekend...his BUDS helmets:) Added such great variety of color:)

Note...clutter/toy area...luckily he just turned a year old and is just now showing any interest in toys...I think the vaccumm cleaner (Brent's old favorite toy) is being replaced.

War's End Kiss

So we finished up Brent's one year pictures with Nellie and we just had to do the "famous" uniform shot a year later. We also wanted to get a picture like the famous War's End Kiss between the sailor and the nurse...modern day of course (we also totally forgot to put Nick's sailor hat on though).

I have been meaning to put up some of the recipes I got from the lodge we stayed at in Wisconsin...the food was amazing! So here are some of their famous recipes...

Cheesy Potatoes

1 stick of melted butter in bottom of 9x13 pan

Spread 2 pounds frozen hash browns on top of butter

Mix 1 can of cream of chicken soup with 1 pint of sour cream.

Mix into potatoes

Mix 1/4 cup oleo and 2 cups crushed corn flakes and sprinkle over top

Bake 350 for 1 hour

Hot Fudge Nut Balls

1-2 quart of beyer real vanilla ice cream

1 bag pecan pieces

dove fudge topping

1. Allow ice cream to soften a bit

2. Scoop out and form ice cream balls

3. Roll in pecan pieces

4. Place on wax paper lined 9 x13 pan

5. Into freezer and ready to serve

6. Pour fudge into small crock and allow guests to ladle topping onto their pecan crusted ice cream ball.

Kristy's apple cake

Cream: 1 3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup oil

Add: 2 eggs and 2 tsp vanilla

Add: 4 cups peeled, sliced apples

Sift and add to apple mixture:
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Bake at 350 in greased/ floured 9x13 pan for 40-45 min

Topping:

Boil until clear: 1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup cream or milk

Add pecans or walnuts inf you like and then pour over warm cake:)

Camp R & R

Nick, Brent & I had the opportunity to go to the Eagle River area in Northern Wisconsin for a week through a program for recently deployed veterans called Camp R & R through the USO. It was awesome...so peaceful and relaxing and yet at the same time did plenty of fun activities like fishing, hiking, boating, and water skiing. Brent was pretty good but the poor guy had a bought of a stomach bug and a very sore bottom. The food was absolutely amazing...which meant we walked away about 10 lbs heavier but hey...you can have dessert every night on vacation:) We stayed at a private lodge with 2 other neat families and there was a USO representative and his wife there to help make us feel at home and plan activities, etc. The local community was great...donating a lot of time and services to our stay. We went to a local winery that donated some wines for "happy camper hour" :) ...the Wedding Wine is my fav if you like something sweet:) Everything was wonderful. So thank you Nick for your service and sacrifices and thank you USO for such a wonderful opportunity...it is nice to feel so appreciated and taken care of.

Brent had his 9 month appointment yesterday and is doing well...

22lbs 10 ounces (50-75%)

30.5 inches long (95%) !!!

I think his length is working against his coordination...he thinks he can "do" a lot more than he body can handle hence all the bruises. However somehow he can manage crawling all the way up to the top of the stairs by himself! (supervised of course) He offically started crawling last week...no more army crawling and is getting good at pulling himself up on anything...especially my legs when I am "not paying attention" to him so he thinks. He are some pics from the last couple days.

...the cottage cheese, bruises, and black eye:( I swear I keep a close eye on him every waking hour but he still is just a wild animal. I just had to order some new bumpers cause he has destroyed his original ones and lately he was just been banging his poor head on his crib (not on purpose) to try to lookout and not miss anything. He doesn't seem to mind but it is just driving me crazy. And the black eye is from a fight with a toy:) I think we might have to switch to plush.

It was hilarious....it was finally nice enough to take Brent outside to play today so it was his first experience with grass and he was pretty freaked out by it. He wanted nothing to do with it and it was the stillest I have ever seen him. It was funny cause he wanted to crawl around but he refused to touch the grass. Poor boy!

Who knew brushing your teeth could be so fun and entertaining....just add the tooth brush to the list of favorite toys (along with hangers, belts, stethoscope, vacuum, mop, etc)

So Brent was running a fever the few days over Easter so I feel kind of guilty I didn't get any pictures of him in his Easter best...however these pictures are from the day before he started getting sick. He has some new tricks as you can see....clapping, and if you blink at him he will blink back and he thinks that is just really funny.

Brent has gone from having 2 teeth....to 6 teeth. He of course could not just get one or two teeth in at a time like most babies but instead this past week he got all 4 (FOUR!) teeth in on top. Crazy boy!

Brent is finally feeling better....just getting over RSV and an earache at the same time. The funny thing is Brent got both Nick and I sick and we both were probably worse off than Brent. He would just laugh everytime he coughed and he was use to the congestion with his feeding issues so he did pretty well with it. He was waking up a lot in the middle of the night crying but he is sleeping better again which I love. Looking forward to our trip to San Diego for Mike's graduation....I think it was 5 degrees F here today!
